Shared physical struggle brings develops a sense of community. It’s why soldiers in battle and athletes on the playing field form tight-knit bonds. It’s also why the audience at CrossFit competitions cheer so loudly at the athletes exerting themselves at the workouts. Everyone in the stands has been through the same training at the competitors. We encourage that camraderie at our box in several ways.
Doing It Together
The workout of the day isn’t broken up by beginner and expert, men and women, or young and old. Everybody does the WOD together and with the same reps. However, nobody is impressed if you’re doing the prescription weight with the form of jellyfish. If you’re new or getting over an injury, you’re expected to scale the movement back so it’s doable. Above all, you want to avoid the dreaded DNF (Did Not Finish) tag after your name.
Your Own Cheering Section
You expect the coaches to encourage you when the moves get hard. But don’t be surprised if your fellow CrossFitters, even after completing their own rounds, get up and run with you so you complete your last few yards. They’ll cheer you on because they know exactly what you’re going through. We also have partner workouts where your workout buddy can’t stop his effort until you finish yours. This only adds incentive for you to do better.
Keeping It Clean
You’re not going to find misplaced racks, sweaty equipment, and weights scattered around the training floor like you do at other gyms. We expect you to clean up after yourself and to help everybody else put their stuff away. It’s about respecting the box and your fellow CrossFitters. You’ll be grateful to do this because some day, when you’re running behind after a tough exercise, your community will clean up after you as well.
